Catch-Up

It's been a while since I last posted anything. Good thing I didn't make it a New Year's Resolution! So, let me catch up on what we've been doing.

Memorial Day weekend saw us going to the cabin in the Black Hills. We had a great time visiting and relaxing with Allen's cousin and his wife and kids. I love my kids, and I love talking about them, so hopefully I didn't monopolize too many conversations. We went on a 4-wheeler tour of the area near the cabin on May 28th-signifigant because it was Kassy's first 4-wheeler ride!

Kassy's first big-girl shopping cart ride! She's officially a sitter!

Kassy's first 4-wheeler ride!

Allen used his super-smart-think-outside-of-the-box brain and strapped her carseat to my 4-wheeler but her head wasn't in a good position so she rode with me in the front pack. David rode with Allen, and the two of them hit every mud puddle on the road and off-believe me, there were A LOT of them! As we were heading back to the cabin, David got on with Kassy and me. We weren't going very fast when David reached out his left hand and pushed my hand off of the handle bar so that he could "drive." I could tell that he was contemplating doing the same thing with his right hand because he made a couple of hesitant attempts before giving up and putting his arm around Kassy. They rode back to the cabin that way. I didn't get a picture of it to post, but I that is one memory I hope to treasure forever! We also went to the summit of Terry Peak and went to Storybook Island (my folks took my brother and me when we were kids) in Rapid City. After Storybook Island we had lunch at Burger King, where David experienced his first fast-food "playland."

The next weekend, June 5-6 saw us in Bristol, SD for a day of fun with my brother's family and dedication of my nephew, Caleb. David and Jonah played pretty well with each other and their daddies. The boys got wet in the sprinkler ball (the water was very cold!) and played in the yard with a Big Wheel, gardening tools, and David's favorite, a payloader. Jonah shared a worm that he found with Kassy, who at 6 months wasn't impressed, but at least she didn't put it in her mouth!

This past weekend we went to my folk's to help work cattle and brand and vaccinate calves and move them to pasture. It rained Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, which meant over 3.5 inches of rain. There was so much water in the Flat! Mom and I were unable to drive our 4-wheel drive vehicles through the water on the north road because the water was so deep. I've never seen water like that!

One morning at Mom and Dad's I was changing David's diaper. Our exchange follows:
David: "I tooted!"
Mommy: "Yes, you did. When you toot you need to say 'Excuse me.'"
David: "'Scuse me."
David: "I tooted!"
Mommy: "Yes, you did. What do you say?"
David: "Please?"

Guess you can't say that he's not learning at least some manners!

Today Tricia and Taylor went with the kids and me on a road trip to Mitchell. What a beautiful day! There was a lot of water standing in the fields and the James River was almost over the railroad tracks near I90. We made time to go see the horseshoe dam on Lake Mitchell. There was so much water flowing over the dam that it made its own fountain. It was an eerie feeling to stand on the bridge and have that much water flowing that fast underneath. Add to that a semi to make the bridge bounce and it'll be enough to send Taylor back to the vehicle!!
